Christmas Wish List for 2018

Every year there are new and old products that Stac and I  think would make holiday gifts for the fly fisher in your life. Here are some ideas for men and woman. Some I’m  bias about because I am on their pro staff  and others are just products that we want. We hope you find our list helpful and enjoy our annual “Wish List”!

River Smith Rod Quiver

This will be my next purchase!  I currently have another brand but have not been happy with them over time. I am very excited for this new company perfecting a way to carry my rods. It so easy having my rods rigged when guiding or fishing. I can have rods rigged for multiple fish species all at once. I can truly grab and go with these vaults! If you don’t have one of these, you are wasting precious fishing time! Kevin

Rise Fishing Nets

THESE are the BEST! A net AND a flask in one…Does it get any better than this? I saw these at a show last year and have been dying to get one. Finally at the end of the season I got it. I am super anxious to get out there next season with it.  They not only come in 7 fun colors but they are also customizable. You can have a name printed on it , initials or even a special date.  They are lightweight and come in different sizes also. They’ll make the perfect gift for your favorite fly fisher!  Stac & Kevin

Maui Jim Sunglasses

I have put my Maui Jims up against all the big sunglass companies that my clients wear and I can honestly say I see way more fish than most of them. I abosolutly love the HT lens, though hard to find, they still have a few pair with this lens. If you order prescription glasses then you can get the HT. I wear mine from fist light to last light. HMH Vise

Kevin has owned several vises over the years and all hold hooks but few are of this quality. I however just received my first HMH vise this year and I couldn’t be more thrilled. It is by far the superior vise. It’s well made, sturdy and easy to use. There is no wiggle in the hook when tying, and the hook locking and release is smooth and easy. We tie flies anywhere from a 22 to a 5/0 all with ease on these vises.  We also love that this company is located right here in Maine. We’ve met the owner, Jon, several times and it is easy to see how passionate he is about his product. He is always quick to respond and the first to show his support. This is a great gift for any level fly tier!  Stac & Kevin

Dun Magazine

In the past I have been asked about women getting into the fly fishing industry. Where would they go for info, find others who are also interested in fly fishing, etc. Where are the resources? I’ve found the perfect gift for them. Dun Magazine! Dun has produced a magazine that is more like a book and is published four times a year.  Dun is a magazine that was created for women but doesn’t exclude men. Their focus is on conservation and empowerment.  Their goal is to show the fun in fly fishing! So wether you have a women or a man fisher in your life they may love a copy of Dun, a beautiful magazine! Stac

Linsenbigler Books

I just received the third book in this series. I am looking forward to reading it. I have had the pleasure of guiding Brian the author several times. Not only is he a great fisherman, he is a talented writer as well. He has created a great character, Linsenbigler. Linsenbigler  adventures all around the world fishing, drinking and saving others and himself. This three book series is an easy, fun read. They make a great stocking stuffers for both the fisher and non fisher in your life. Kevin McKay

Hatch Nomad Pliers

We received these this past fall and used them on our Musky trip and our trip to NY steelhead fishing. We both agree that these are the best new product from our 2018 season. You can use them to take out hooks, pinch barbs, tie knots, cut line and even open a bottle of beer. They come with a beautiful leather case that attaches to your belt and a stretchable line attached to both the case and the pliers assures you won’t lose them even if you drop them! Well worth every penny! Stac & Kevin

Loon Outdoors

For the fly tier out there, this kit is awesome. I have the ergo bobbin but would love to organize all my tools into this one kit. I love how the bobbin fits in my hand. You can buy them individually as stocking stuffers or this whole kit. Kevin McKay

Simms Woman’s Guide Wading Jacket

Over the last few years I have slowly compiled my cold weather fishing gear. The one thing I was missing was a wading jacket. This year we had a fishing trip planned that was going to test all of my gear. I didn’t want to be cold AND wet. That led me to my next gift selection…Simms women’s guide wading jacket! It turned out to be the most valuable addition to my gear to date.  I fished in every possible weather condition mother nature could throw at me. Extreme cold, rain, snow, sleet, hale, wind and even a little sun.  Not only did I stay warm, I stayed dry! We all know how important that is when out fishing in extreme conditions. This jacket is a MUST HAVE item in everyone’s cold weather arsenal! Stac
